Village life
The groups, places and people that make our village on the hill such a friendly place to live, and a few practical things worth knowing.
At a glance
Farnley Tyas sits around 900 feet up, four miles south of Huddersfield. Green Belt, a Conservation Area and old footpaths shape the place, while the church, school, pub, recreation ground and village groups keep it connected.
Most activities are open to newcomers. The Community Group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 7.15pm at the Bowling Club, and you can simply turn up.
Groups & places
Long-standing institutions and friendly gatherings alike. New faces are always welcome at every one of them.
The village church, whose spire is a landmark for miles around. An Eco Church at the heart of village life.
A small, well-loved Church of England primary school, the beginning of the journey for the village's youngest.
The village pub: a warm welcome, a good pint, and home to the quiz and the book club.
A thriving Women's Institute with speakers, outings and crafts. There's always room for one more.
Needles, wool and warm conversation, every other Friday in the Reading Room.
The village book club: a monthly read and a relaxed natter at the Golden Cock.
Tea, coffee, cake and conversation at the church on Tuesday mornings, 9am to 11.30am. Everyone is welcome.
A custodian of farms, homes and community property in and around the village since purchasing part of the former Farnley Estate in 2018.
A beyond-organic herb farm on Farnley Road, growing local produce with renewable energy and low-waste methods.
